In the spring of 2016, the “Future Present” exhibition of the famous Hungarian-born fine artist, photographer, designer and writer was presented for the first time in the U.S. by the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Following its great success, the retrospective exhibition of László Moholy-Nagy - who was also known as a professor of the Bauhaus style and the founder of the Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology – moved to Chicago and was opened to the public in October 2016.
In this exhibition, nearly 300 works by Moholy-Nagy demonstrate his significant effect on 20th-century art. The exhibition was appreciated by an audience of almost 150,000 visitors at the Art Institute of Chicago. The official closing event took place on January 6, 2017, which was accompanied by an outstanding experimental-electronic music concert. Mr. István Íjgyártó, State Secretary for Cultural and Science Diplomacy, represented the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade at the event.
After the Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Art Institute of Chicago, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) will host the exhibition beginning February 2017, which demonstrates the high esteem of Moholy-Nagy in the U.S.
More information will be forthcoming in the next few days. Please visit our website and Facebook page regularly for details.
/The exhibition tour is sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the closing event in Chicago was sponsored by the Memorial Committee for 1956. The program-coordinators are the Hungarian Cultural Institute in New York and the Hungarian Consulate Generals in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles./
